A DIY Reindeer from Strips of Paper

Reindeer from Strips of Paper

A reindeer made from strips of paper is simple Christmas craft which would be quite interesting and useful for children. Using this technique, you can craft a lot of different fairytale characters for the Christmas holidays – for example, paper Santa Claus, paper bunny, or even a bright garland.

We will need:

  • Brown or beige cardboard;
  • A little piece of red cardboard for a nose;
  • Ruler, glue stick, scissors, pencil;
  • Pipe cleaner of any color for making a scarf. If you don’t have any, it can be made from paper;
  • Googly eyes. You can as well cut them out of black and white paper.

Making a reindeer from strips of paper: step-by-step guide

Our paper reindeer consists of two balls – each made from 4 strips of paper. The head has a bit smaller size which means its stripes should be shorter.

For making a head, I cut 4 strips with the length equal to short side of A4 paper while the length of the strips for body equals the wide side of the same format paper. The width of the strips is 1.5 cm.

Cut 4 strips to make, for example, a head.

Add the third strip. Pay attention to the symmetry of all sides – make sure none of the strips sag.

Glue the tips of the last strip and you will have a ball like the one on the picture – this will be a reindeer’s head.

Make the body exactly the same way as above; don’t forget that the strips should be longer.

Use the template and cut out the horns. The template is not necessary at all as the horns can be completely different: complicated, branched, ordinary, with three branches etc.

Cut out the horns and a red circle for nose.

Glue your eyes and nose on the head, curl the tips of the horns and glue them as well.

Now only need to stick the head to the body and your paper reindeer is ready. You can hang it on a Christmas tree and if you stick a cardboard circle to its bottom, the craft will be able to stand on an even surface.
