A paper accordion technique is popular in children’s crafts, since it is amusing and useful for developing hands’ fine motor skills and diligence. On the website, there are lots of crafts made of accordion paper – these are various objects, plants, animals, and birds.

You will need two paper strips. Or one longer and thinner strip. These strips are as long as the narrow side of A4 paper – 21 cm. The strip is 5 cm wide.

Start interchangeably folding a paper strip into an accordion. To do this, make a small forward fold (5-7 mm) on the narrow side, then turn the strip over and make a similar fold again. Try to align to the sides so that the accordion could be as even as possible and would make an even circle afterwards.

Turn both paper strips into accordions.

Glue two accordions together into one by applying glue to narrow edges.

Then, apply glue to the edges once again and stick the sides together. You will get such an accordion tube.

To make a circle, press one side directing it to the middle at the same time.

At this stage, the circle is still unstable – if you fail to hold it, it will turn into a tube again. You can fix it by cutting a small cardboard circle on the one side. Or can finish the craft by gluing the necessary details, which will make the paper shape flat and round – that’s exactly what we need.

To make a paper apple, you still need:

  • A red cardboard circle, which is slightly smaller (1-1.5 cm) that the accordion circle.
  • A beige or light yellow core. It’s an even smaller circle with rounding sides. You should use a felt pen to draw seeds on it.
  • A green leaf.

Stick all these parts together and then glue the accordion onto the circle, thus fixing its flat shape. The apple of accordion paper is ready.

All the first stages are similar to the previous ones. We cut off strips of the required size.

Further actions vary from the ones we performed to make an apple, since we should craft details that are specific for a pineapple. To do this:

  • Cut out a cardboard circle that will secure the accordion and make the pineapple look complete. Draw intersecting lines on the circle.
  • Draw a turned over fir tree with an elongated top on green cardboard (or paper) and cut it out.

This technique can be used to make any kind of round fruit and berries.

It can be a lemon, which consists of a yellow round accordion and white round cardboard in the center with yellow drop-shaped cantles.
