It is very important to form stable auditory attention and perseverance in a child — the necessary conditions for successful activity. Working on graphic dictations develops the ability to concentrate, memorize and reproduce a series of sequential actions, control over one’s own written activity.

Working on graphic dictations will help:
- Prepare the child’s hand for writing, which is necessary to form a calligraphically correct letter;
- Develop spatial representations. It will be easier for the child to navigate on a sheet of notebook, which means fewer mistakes and corrections;
- To form a stable auditory attention in the child. He will learn to listen and hear what the teacher says;
- Cultivate perseverance, which is necessary for any successful activity;
- Learn to concentrate, memorize and reproduce a series of sequential actions;
- Control your actions when performing various tasks.
What you need for the lesson:
- Prepare a simple pencil and eraser for the child to correct mistakes;
- Notebook or sheets in a cage;
- Colored pencils to further improve the drawing;
- For yourself, a bookmark or a ruler so as not to lose the place where you left off in the dictation.
Before class, pay attention to the child that each person has a right and left hand. Explain that the hand with which he holds the spoon draws and writes is right, the other is left (for left-handed people it is vice versa). Talk about what is on his right and what is on his left. After that, you can teach the child to navigate on a sheet in a notebook. Discuss with him where the notebook has the left edge, where is the right edge, where is the top, where is the bottom, how to count the cells from a given point.
During the lesson, the mood of the child and the friendly attitude of the adult are very important. Help the child, monitor his work and correct mistakes in time. The result should please the child so that he again wants to continue working with interest and enthusiasm.
Work can be organized in different ways:
- Visual dictation. The sample is provided to the child and he must independently repeat exactly the same drawing in a notebook.
- Auditory dictation. The sequence of actions is dictated with an indication of the number of cells and their directions (left, right, down, up), the children perform the work by ear.
If the work is done under dictation, then the adult should say: up, down, right, left, left up, right up, right down and left down. When performed independently, the child can mark the actions performed, for example, cross out the numbers with a pencil.
How to perform a graphic dictation in cells
For example, the task says: 2↑ 4→ 5↘ 3↙. So, you need to draw lines two cells up and four cells to the right, 5 cells to the right down the diagonal and 3 cells to the left down the diagonal. For convenience, you can first, counting the required number of cells in the indicated direction, put a point, and then connect it with a line to the previous point. If the task is completed correctly, the result will be an image with a closed contour – an object, plant, animal, which is indicated in the title.
At the end of the work, the child can (optionally) color the resulting picture and finish whatever he wants. As a rule, these can be eyes, a smile, characteristic spots or additional lines or patterns.
Graphic dictation is not only work, but also an exciting game, a method of learning and entertainment at the same time. Performing graphic dictations, solving examples, coloring by numbers, copying pictures by cells and drawing them point by point, you can not only have fun, but also acquire useful skills necessary for studying at school.
