Sun Craft from Colored Paper

Sun Craft

A bright, radiant sun craft. A creative activity that brings back memories of warm summer days.

Materials needed:

  • Yellow paper;
  • Blue or light blue cardboard for the base;
  • Scissors;
  • Glue;
  • Black and red markers for the smile;
  • Googly eyes (store-bought, drawn, or cut out of paper).

Step-by-step Sun Craft

This simple yet interesting and three-dimensional craft starts with a single element. Draw a circle on the yellow paper and sketch many rays extending from it. They can be of different lengths and widths, spreading out in a slightly uneven, lively pattern. It’s this light irregularity that gives the craft its special charm.

Carefully cut out the sun. Erase the pencil lines left on the rays, but do not touch the outline of the circle base. This clear border helps the sun keep its shape; without it, it may look unnatural.

You can also make a sun from paper strips.

Sun Craft

Make a cut from the edge of the sun toward the center. To do this, carefully place the scissors between two rays.

The next step is adding volume. Bend one side of the cut over the other, overlapping them, and glue to form a cone. To keep the row of rays neat, place one ray over another, hiding the joint.

Bend the longer rays upward, toward the top of the cone. This will give the craft extra volume and liveliness. Leave the shorter rays untouched—they will be used to glue the sun onto the base.

Finish the craft. Bring your sun to life by making it charming: attach the eyes, draw a smile and rosy cheeks. The eyes can be drawn, cut out of paper, or store-bought. Your sun can be peacefully resting among the clouds or happily greeting a new day—choose the mood you like best.

Take cotton pads and arrange them on the base to create fluffy clouds. In our example, there are three, but you can make more or fewer. Cotton pads can also be replaced with plain white paper or cotton wool.

Glue the sun onto the base, completing the craft. It will stick using the short rays—apply glue to them.

And here is the radiant sun craft we created! You can hang it on the wall, and it will warm your heart even on the cloudiest day.
