An interesting flying saucer craft featuring an alien under a glass dome. The craft is movable: thanks to its semicircular base, it can rock from side to side like a roly-poly toy.
Materials
- Colored cardstock for the base;
- Colored paper for the trim;
- Light blue paper for the dome;
- A small amount of yellow paper for the lights;
- A small amount of white paper for the reflection;
- A small amount of green paper for the alien;
- Blue, green, and black markers;
- Scissors;
- Glue;
- Compass (optional).
Flying Saucer Craft: Step-by-Step
First, cut out all the pieces for the craft.
- You will need cardstock for the base. The color can be any shade, but dark colors such as blue, purple, and similar shades work best. Cut a large circle from the chosen cardstock.
- For the trim, use colored paper in any shade; we chose pink. Cut an arc-shaped piece that looks like a rim. It should be the same size as the cardstock circle.
- Cut the flying saucer dome from light blue paper. This piece should be semicircular, but with a curved, bulging lower edge rather than a straight one.
- Cut small circles from yellow paper to make the saucer’s lights. They should fit on the trim. The number of circles depends on their size; we needed seven.
- Cut the alien’s silhouette from green paper, including its body, head, and funny antennae. The piece should not be too large and should fit inside the dome.
- Cut a small reflection from white paper.
Next, add some details to the pieces to prepare them for assembly. Outline the dome with a blue marker, then glue the white reflection onto the glass. This will make the dome look more three-dimensional.
Next, finish the alien. Outline it with a green marker, then draw its face with a black marker: oval eyes and a smile.
Then move on to the circle. Fold it in half to create a semicircular base.
Next, glue the trim onto the base. The edges of the two pieces should line up with each other.
After that, attach the lights to the trim. They should cover the entire length of the arc.
Next, glue the dome onto the flying saucer. It should fit into the space between the two ends of the trim.
Then glue the alien onto the dome. The alien should look as if it is inside the dome, looking at you through the glass.
Next, turn the craft over and place it upright. It stands securely thanks to the semicircular cardboard base.
We’re done! The flying saucer craft is ready! It looks unusual and can rock from side to side. Give the craft a gentle push with your finger to see it move. The alien inside the dome cheerfully peers out, as if it’s ready to abduct you—or the nearest cow.
