Toilet Paper Roll Fly Agaric Mushroom Craft

This adorable toilet paper roll fly agaric mushroom looks a bit like a cheerful little gnome. It’s bright, eye-catching, and surprisingly easy to make. Besides a cardboard tube, you’ll only need a few simple paper shapes, such as circles and strips.

Materials:

  • Toilet paper roll;
  • Red and white paper;
  • Black marker;
  • Googly eyes (optional);
  • Scissors;
  • Glue.

How to Make a Toilet Paper Roll Fly Agaric Mushroom

First, prepare all the paper pieces for your craft.

  • Cut four long strips and one large circle from the red paper. The circle should be slightly larger than the diameter of the toilet paper roll, and each strip should be longer than the circle’s diameter.
  • From the white paper, cut out lots of small circles, two arms, and one rectangle. The rectangle will wrap around the toilet paper roll, so its width should match the height of the roll.

Make the Mushroom Cap

Once all the pieces are ready, place the large red circle on the table. This will be the base of the mushroom cap.

Take one red strip and fold both ends inward. Apply glue to the folded ends and attach them to opposite sides of the red circle so the strip forms an arch.

Repeat with the remaining three strips. Space them evenly around the circle so that they all cross in the center.

Next, glue the small white circles onto the red strips. These are the mushroom’s signature white spots.

Make the Stem

Now it’s time to make the mushroom stem. Take the toilet paper roll and the white paper rectangle you prepared earlier.

Wrap the roll with the white paper and glue it in place. Either a glue stick or white craft glue (PVA) works well.

Next, prepare the top of the stem so it can be attached to the cap. Cut several evenly spaced slits around one end of the roll to create small tabs. The tabs shouldn’t be too wide or too narrow, and they don’t need to be very long—cut only the top edge without reaching the middle of the tube.

Finish the Mushroom

Apply plenty of glue to the tabs on the toilet paper roll and press the mushroom cap onto them. Make sure every tab is firmly attached to the inside of the red cap, then hold everything in place for a short time until the glue sets.

Next, glue the paper arms to the stem. Fold the end of each arm that doesn’t have fingers, apply glue to the folded section, and attach it to the toilet paper roll.

Finally, give your mushroom a friendly face.

You can draw the eyes or use paper or plastic googly eyes. Then use a black marker to draw a smiling mouth and a small nose.
