In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to make a cheerful 3D sun craft. It’s quick and easy to create, requiring only a few simple materials and very little time.
Supplies:
- Yellow paper for the sun;
- White paper for the clouds;
- Blue paper for the sky (the background sheet);
- Black and red markers for the face;
- Scissors;
- Glue.
How to Make a 3D Sun Craft – Step by Step
First, prepare three paper pieces.
Cut out a circle and a rectangle from the yellow paper, and cut cloud shapes from the white paper. Make the clouds slightly angular rather than rounded, as they will be placed in the corners of the background sheet.
Later, you’ll cut the sun’s rays from the yellow rectangle. Make sure the rectangle isn’t too large compared to the circle.
Next, fold the yellow rectangle so that one edge doesn’t quite reach the other. This will divide it into a longer section and a shorter one.

Now cut the folded rectangle into many strips to create the sun’s rays. The strips should be medium in width—not too wide and not too narrow.
The number of strips is up to you. We used 16, but you can make more or fewer if you like.
Now it’s time to assemble the craft.
Glue the cloud shapes to opposite corners of the blue background. We placed ours in the upper left and lower right corners, but you can also use the upper right and lower left corners.
Try to position the clouds so that no blue paper is visible underneath them.
Next, glue the yellow circle in the center of the background. It already looks a bit like the sun, but there’s still more to add.
Now attach the rays around the circle to complete your sun. Depending on the width of the strips, the rays can either touch each other or be spaced slightly apart.
Gently fluff and separate the rays to give the craft a more three-dimensional look.
Finally, draw a face on your sun—a smile, eyes, a nose, and, if you like, rosy cheeks.
Feel free to get creative! Draw a wide, cheerful grin or a small, gentle smile. Give your sun a tiny button nose or a round one, and make the eyes open wide or happily squinting.
