This moving cat with an aquarium paper craft is bright, fun, and full of charm. It consists of two main elements—a playful cat and an aquarium. The finished craft gently rocks from side to side, making it a delightful paper toy.
Materials:
- Black and white paper for the cat;
- Light blue or dark blue paper for the aquarium;
- Scraps of colored paper for the fish;
- Light blue or dark blue cardstock for the rocking base;
- Black marker for the details;
- Light blue or dark blue marker for the bubbles and waves;
- Scissors;
- Glue.
How to Make a Moving Cat with an Aquarium Paper Craft
First, cut out all the pieces for the craft.
- Cut the cat’s head and ears from black paper. These should be one connected piece rather than separate parts.
- Cut four whiskers, two eyes, and two inner ears from white paper. Fold the paper several times so you can cut multiple identical pieces at once.
- Cut the aquarium from light blue or dark blue paper. It should be a half circle or half oval, with the straight edge replaced by a wavy line.
- Cut out several fish from paper in different colors. We used orange, yellow, green, and red, but you can choose any colors you like.
The fish don’t all have to look the same! Try making some with wide bodies and others with long, narrow shapes. Add different fins and tails—pointed, rounded, or anything you like. Let your imagination decide. The number of fish depends on their size; our example has five.
Next, take the cat and aquarium pieces and glue them together. Attach the cat behind the aquarium so it looks as though it is peeking over the water.
Now add the remaining details to the cat. Glue on the white eyes, whiskers, and inner ears.
Next, glue the fish onto the aquarium, spacing them evenly across the paper water.
Use a black marker to decorate the fish by drawing their eyes, smiles, scales, and fins.
Then draw the cat’s pupils. They can face any direction, but in our example the cat is carefully watching the fish.
Now take a light blue or dark blue marker and decorate the water by drawing waves and bubbles.
Set the finished piece aside for a moment and cut a circle from light blue or dark blue cardstock. The circle should be the same size as the aquarium.
Fold the cardstock circle in half to create the rocking base.
Glue the folded cardstock base to the back of the cat and aquarium piece. The curved edge of the base should line up with the curved edge of the aquarium.
Turn the craft upright. The folded cardstock base will allow it to stand on its own without tipping over.
Your moving cat with an aquarium paper craft is now complete! Gently nudge it with your finger and watch it rock from side to side. It almost looks as if the curious little cat is making the aquarium sway back and forth.
