Step-by-Step Crab Craft

Crab Craft

A bright and cheerful crab craft on a sandy seashore, perfect for creative summer vacation activities. It is made from simple shapes, mostly circles.

Materials Needed

  • Colored paper for the crab;
  • Yellow paper for the beach;
  • Blue or light blue cardstock for the background (paper will also work, but cardstock is sturdier);
  • Black marker or felt-tip pen;
  • Scissors;
  • Glue.

Step-by-Step Crab Craft

Our little crab is made entirely from circles. Draw two circles on colored paper: a large one for the body and a smaller one for the claws. The crab can be any color, but avoid yellow or blue so it does not blend into the background. In our example, the crab is orange.

Red is an especially popular choice because crabs are often associated with that color, and many children’s cartoons depict them in bright red shades. However, this is not a rule—real-life crabs come in many different colors.

On white paper, draw a circle the same size as the claw circle.

Cut out all the pieces. You will need two eyes and two claws.

Fold the large body circle in half to create a semicircle. Cut a wedge out of each small colored circle, as if you were cutting a slice from a pizza. This will give them the shape of crab claws.

Place the yellow paper on the background sheet and draw a shoreline. The line does not need to be straight, so don’t worry about making it perfect. The beach should cover a little more than half of the background.

Cut out the beach along the line you drew. If any pencil marks remain, erase them.

Glue the beach onto the background sheet. Make sure it is aligned neatly so that the corner of the beach matches the corner of the background. No blue cardstock should be visible underneath the beach section.

Glue the crab pieces onto the beach. The main body should rest on the sand, while the claws and eyes can slightly overlap the sea area.

Use a black marker or felt-tip pen to add the finishing details. Draw pupils on the eyes and a smile on the crab’s body. Add the legs and draw lines connecting the claws and eyes to the body.

Crab Craft

This crab craft combines two classic symbols of summer: the beach and the sea. It brings to mind warm sunny days and relaxing vacations, making it a delightful craft to create and display!
