Fish Craft for Kids

Fish Craft for Kids

This fish craft for kids is easy to make, yet fun and interactive. It is created from paper circles that form the body and scales, along with a tail fin. The scales are made in different shades, giving the craft a bright and eye-catching look.

You’ll need:

  • Colored cardstock;
  • Colored paper in two shades that are close to the color of the cardstock;
  • A marker matching the color of the cardstock and paper;
  • A googly eye (or a paper eye);
  • Scissors;
  • Glue.

Fish Craft for Kids – Step by Step

First, decide what color your fish will be. You can choose absolutely any color! In our example, the fish is orange.

The scales should be made from two shades that are slightly lighter and darker than the body. In our example, one set of scales is lighter, while the other is darker than the base color.

Once you’ve chosen the colors, prepare all the craft pieces.

  • Cut a large circle from the cardstock to make the fish’s body and the base of the craft.
  • Cut a neat tail fin from the same piece of cardstock.
  • Next, make the scales by cutting lots of small circles from the two shades of colored paper. The exact number depends on the size of your fish. We used a little more than a dozen.
  • Prepare the eye as well by cutting a small white paper circle or using a ready-made googly eye.

Now fold the large cardstock circle in half. This will become the fish’s body.

Next, glue on the tail fin and the eye.

Fold each of the small paper circles in half to create the scales.

Glue the folded scales onto the fish’s body. You can arrange them in straight rows or curved lines—whichever style you prefer.

Finally, add the finishing touches. Use a marker to draw a smile and decorate the tail.

Choose a marker in a shade similar to your fish—for example, we used orange. If you prefer a stronger contrast, you can use a black marker instead.

Your fish is ready! Turn the craft over and stand it upright. Thanks to its folded cardstock base, it stands steadily on its own.
