Heart pop-up card: step-by-step guide
Making a frame
Prepare two rectangular pieces of cardboard of different colors – one of them needs to be 1-1.5 cm longer than the other and will be used as a cover. Fold them in half.
Turn the back of the smaller rectangle to yourself – we will later put it in the middle of our card.
Draw two parallel vertical lines with a pencil in the area of the fold – approximately in the center. The gap between them needs to be 1 –1.5 cm wide, but it all depends on the size of the postcard. In fact, such cards are incredibly attractive in their mini versions. It looks like a pocket version of a surprise.
Make cuts along the lines with scissors.
Fold the resulting double strip up. This is how we make our correct future fold.
Open the card and pull the strip to make it pop out.
Glue the resulting frame on the cover. Adjust both pop-up folds.
We will get some kind of a small shelf in the center of the card which we will use to fix whatever our imagination tells us. But this time we don’t need to imagine anything as we will glue the heart – a very cute one, with moving eyes and small hands.
Making a heart
Draw and cut out simple small hands – you can cut them out separately or at once, as in the picture. Cut out a smile from a piece of paper as well or draw it with a marker pen. And, of course, the most important part – the cardboard heart. You can draw it yourself or print some template. Kids can easily make the heart as presented in this article.
Glue the hands on the back of the heart and stick the eyes and the smile to the front part.
And now clue this funny character on the shelf in the middle of the card.
That’s it: the card with a pop-up heart is now ready. Despite our long instructions, it doesn’t take much time and effort to make it. Watch another master class dedicated to making a heart pop-up card, but this option is a bit more complicated.
