A magpie craft made from paper and clay that is quick and easy to create. A playful bird showing off its fancy bead necklace.
Materials needed:
- Black, white, and yellow paper;
- Modeling clay;
- Colored cardboard for the background base;
- Pencil for sketching;
- Scissors;
- Glue;
- Googly eyes (cut from paper or store-bought).
Step-by-step Magpie Craft from Paper and Clay
This craft combines two materials, making it even more interesting to create. First, sketch the outlines of the future magpie. On black paper, draw a right triangle (the body), a feather for the tail, and a leg. On white paper, draw a quarter circle (the belly) and an eye (if you decide to make the eyes yourself instead of using ready-made ones). On yellow paper, draw a small triangle that will become the beak.

Cut out the templates. You will need two legs and two eyes, and three feathers. To cut identical pieces at the same time, fold the sheet of paper several times.

Take the body triangle and glue the white belly onto it.
Many different bird-themed ideas can be found in the craft collection —

Fold the edge of the triangle to form the magpie’s head.

Glue the beak to the folded edge. To make it look neater, trim it slightly and round the corners.

Glue the feathers to the free corner of the triangle, arranging them into a fluffy tail.

Return to the head. Glue on the eyes, making the magpie look lively and expressive.

Glue the legs to the lower side of the triangle. You can experiment here: place the legs closer together or farther apart to find the perfect pose for the bird.

The magpie is almost ready. Glue it onto the background sheet. The cardboard can be any color. In our example it is blue, but you can choose your favorite shade.

Take the modeling clay and roll it into small bead-shaped balls. Choose any colors and any number of beads. In our example, the magpie has a three-colored necklace, but you can use two or four shades, or even make a rainbow necklace.

Attach the clay beads to the magpie’s neck, dressing it in bright jewelry. A few beads can be “lost” near its feet, as if the bird accidentally dropped them.

Here is the finished magpie craft from paper and clay! A lively, playful bird that looks wonderful wearing its colorful necklace.
