Carrot Craft for Kids

Carrot Craft

An extremely easy carrot craft for children. Bright and eye-catching, it is perfect for kids’ creativity.

Materials Needed:

  • Orange paper for the carrot;
  • Green paper for the carrot tops;
  • White paper for the eyes;
  • Colored cardboard for the background base;
  • A black marker or felt-tip pen for the pupils and smile;
  • A compass (optional);
  • Scissors;
  • Glue.

Step-by-Step Carrot Craft

This craft is made in just a few simple steps.

First, draw a circle on orange paper that will become the carrot, a smaller circle on white paper for the eye, and a long leaf shape on green paper for the carrot tops.

Cut out all the pieces. You will need two eyes and three leaves for the tops. To quickly make identical pieces, fold the paper several times and cut all the details at once.

Carrot Craft

Fold the edges of the orange circle inward to form a cone-like shape.

Overlap one folded edge over the other and glue them together.

Turn the finished shape over and decorate it. Attach the carrot tops at the upper part, glue on the eyes (after drawing the pupils), and draw a smile on the carrot.

Experiment with the carrot’s facial expression. The eyes can look angry, sad, cheerful, or many other emotions. Give them different shapes: narrow oval eyes, half-circle angry eyes, or round surprised eyes. The smile can change too: the corners of the mouth can point upward or downward, and the smile itself can be wide or barely noticeable. Its shape also matters. Would you like it to be a high curved smile or just a simple line?

Glue the finished carrot onto the background sheet. The color of the base can be anything you like. Warm shades match the carrot especially well, but this is not a strict rule — cool colors also work beautifully. In fact, a blue background creates an interesting contrast. Try not to use orange or green cardboard so the carrot does not blend into the background.

Carrot Craft

Here is the carrot craft we made! Any child can create it quickly and easily while enjoying the creative process.

We also recommend making a very simple origami carrot with children.

You can also experiment with the shape of the carrot. Make it thinner or wider, and create fuller tops by cutting six leaves instead of three. The carrot tops can also be styled differently — for example, wrap them around a pencil to make them curly.

Explain these ideas to your child and encourage them to let their imagination run free.
